16-Year-Old Boy Nabbed After Selling Stolen Truck Batteries at Junkshop
A 16-year-old boy was apprehended after stealing six truck batteries worth around P30,000 inside the fish port in Bulan, Sorsogon.
The involvement of minors in criminal activities is a concerning societal issue that raises questions about the root causes, rehabilitation, and legal consequences.
Minors involved in robbery usually go through the juvenile justice system rather than the adult criminal courts. The goal of juvenile courts is to address the root causes that led the kids to engage in criminal behavior rather than to punish them.
Instead of being imprisoned, minors may be placed on probation, which involves close supervision by a probation officer. Probation may involve requirements such as therapy, community service, or observing a curfew.
A juvenile record, on the other hand, can have consequences for a minor’s future. While most juvenile records are sealed, very serious offenses or repeat criminal activity may result in the record being made available to law authorities or the court.
The government urges parents to guide and monitor their minor children to prevent them from engaging in illegal activities.
Recently, a male teenager was arrested after he was caught stealing six truck batteries inside the fish port in Sorsogon. The suspect will face corresponding sanctions and penalties for his illegal act.
The incident reportedly occurred on New Year’s Eve, according to the police. The teenager attempted to sell the stolen batteries at a junk shop last Wednesday. However, the junk shop owner got wind of the stolen items and reported it to the barangay.
The batteries were surrendered to the police, and the suspect was arrested after confirming the stolen nature of the items. The suspect, who remains silent, has been turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
