PAGASA Says Amihan and Easterlies to Affect PH Weather Condition

PAGASA LATEST UPDATE – The state weather bureau reported that amihan and easterlies will bring rains over parts of the country.

On Wednesday (January 3, 2024), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. The northeast monsoon and easterlies will affect the country’s weather conditions.

PAGASA weather specialist Daniel James Villamil reported that the northeast monsoon will be affecting Luzon while the easterlies will affect the rest of the country.

The effects of the northeast monsoon, or amihan, continue to intensify, and today, it has affected a significant portion of Luzon,” Villamil said.

The easterlies, or warm winds blowing from the Pacific Ocean, are expected to bring rainfall over areas in Mindanao. It will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over the Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, and Davao Region.

“In Mindanao, specifically in the regions of Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, as well as in areas of Caraga and Davao Region, we may experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms,” Villamil added.

The northeast monsoon will bring cloudy skies with rains over Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Aurora, and Quezon.

Amihan will also bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon. Overall, generally fair weather will prevail in these areas.

The easterlies and localized thunderstorms will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over the remaining parts of the country.

The coastal water condition over extreme Northern Luzon will be rough. The rest of Luzon will have moderate to rough coastal water conditions. The remaining parts of the archipelago will have slight to moderate surrounding sea conditions, according to PAGASA.

A gale warning is raised over the coastal areas of Batanes.
