Surely, not all families and dependents of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) are aware that active members of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration or OWWA may actually qualify to the Death Benefit offer in time of death.

Under the OWWA Death Benefit offer, both deaths due to natural causes and accidents may be covered. Through the offer, the government office wants to make sure that each of its member who passed away gets a decent burial.

OWWA offers financial assistance to the families or dependents of the deceased OFW. How to apply for the OWWA Death Benefit offer for OFWs? The process is simple and you may follow these steps below:

Step 1 — Prepare the requirements in applying for the Death Benefit offer of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) such as the following:

  • OFW Membership Record (MR)
  • Copy of Passport or Seaman’s Identification Record Book (SIRB) of the OFW – Member
  • Two (2) Valid IDs and One (1) copy of ID Picture of claimant (1×1)
  • Death Certificate (local o foreign; police / accident report – if death was caused by accident)
  • Burial Permit and Official Receipt of payment in funeral
  • Affidavit of Undertaking executed by claimant
  • Proof of Relationship to OFW Member
    • OFW CENOMAR, if single
    • Marriage Certificate
    • Birth Certificate of OFW, if the claimant is the parent
    • irth Certificate of the claimant and death certificate of deceased spouse, for OFWs child

Step 2 — Go to the OWWA Regional Welfare Office that

Step 4 — Present the ID of the overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who passed away or his/her information at the Membership Verification Desk. Get a checklist of the required documents to check if there are additional documents needed on a case-to-case basis.

Step 5 — Submit the duly-accomplished forms and the other documentary requirements for validation and evaluation of the application.
