Compassionate Individuals Earn Praises for Teaching Middle-Aged Badjaos How to Read & Write in Iligan City
Several compassionate individuals earn praise for teaching middle-aged badjaos how to read and write in Iligan City.
Recently, the heartwarming initiative, led by Dessa Blanca Gilbolingo Gimeno, along with a team of dedicated individuals and teachers, is changing lives as a group of middle-aged Badjaos in Iligan City embarks on their journey to learn how to read and write.
The group’s effort involves not only the generous contribution of time and effort but also personal funds to provide the necessary supplies for this voluntary educational mission.

In 2020, the noble initiative began, to empower the Badjao community by imparting essential literacy skills. As the Christmas season approaches, the group is reaching out to the online community, urging the public to share their blessings and support this meaningful project.
The goal is to extend the opportunity for more Badjaos to acquire the invaluable skills of reading and writing.
Gimeno expressed her mission with a heartfelt message on social media:
“Kini sila mga Badjao nga naglangyaw sa Tambacan, Iligan City aron makapuyo nga malinawon. NO READ, NO WRITE kini sila apan ang Ginoo maayo kay naghatag Siya ug pamaagi aron sila ma edukar sa PAGBASA UG PAGSULAT apil na ang PAGSABOT.”
(These are the Badjaos who traveled to Tambacan, Iligan City, seeking a peaceful life. They may not know how to read and write, but the Lord is kind because He has provided a way for them to be educated in READING AND WRITING, including UNDERSTANDING)

Dessa affectionately calls upon the public, saying, “Karong Pasko ato sab silang tagaan sa atong mga blessing, Siloys.”
(This Christmas, let’s share our blessings with them, Siloys!)
The program gives Badjao individuals, the chance to gain fundamental skills but also contribute to the wider goal of building understanding and empowerment within our diverse communities.
Previously, Robin Padilla appealed to give Badjaos livelihood aid to stop begging
