Aside from the fact that there are already millions of Filipinos who are members of the Social Security System, every year, thousands of new members are added to the member populace of the state-run social insurance institution. It has loans and benefit offers for its members.
Among the many SSS benefits that members of the state entity who have qualified accounts may turn to, the offer that the members look forward to the most is the SSS Retirement Benefit. It provides a monthly SSS pension or a lump sum payment when the member retires from work.
Who are qualified to file a claim for the SSS Retirement Benefit? Here are the eligibility requirements set by the state-run social insurance institution:
- at least 60 years old, no longer employed or self-employed for optional retirement
- at least 65 years of age, whether employed, self-employed, working as an OFW, or working as a housekeeper, for technical retirement
- at least 120 total contributions paid before the retirement semester
- a total disability pensioner who is at least 60 years old (or at least 55 years old if an underground mine worker)
In case the retiring member reaches the retirement age but with less than 120 monthly contributions, he/she may avail the lump sump payment. It is equal to the total contributions posted by them as well as the share of their employer.
If your total contributions did not reach 120 but you want a monthly pension, you may continue posting monthly contributions until you reach 120 contributions or until you are 65 years old.
In filing for a claim, there are SSS Retirement Benefit requirements that you must prepare and submit to the state-run social insurance institution. Here are the documents needed in filing for a claim:
- duly-accomplished Application Form for SSS Retirement Claim
- Birth certificate
- valid IDs, both primary and secondary
- ATM card, passbook, or cash card enrollment form, in original or photocopy, with name on it.
- Marriage certificate
- If the member is under 65, a certificate of separation from their previous employer must be submitted.
