Eat Bulaga Mentioned In TVJ’s Post After Winning Trademark Dispute

In a social media post, TVJ mentions Eat Bulaga after winning.

Veteran hosts Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon (TVJ) win in the trademark dispute versus TAPE Incorporated.

The Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHIL) has canceled TAPE Incorporated’s (TAPE) registration of the trademarks Eat Bulaga and EB. This ruling favored Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon (TVJ).

The TVJ versus TAPE trademark dispute started when the hosts left the show taking the other Dabarkads with them.

The move from TVJ also left the TAPE to do a major overhaul of the show and the hosts. Not long after, while the dispute was still in legal process, TVJ was offered by TV5 to do a noontime show with the network which was called “E.A.T.”

The Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines’ Bureau of Legal Affairs confirmed that TAPE ‘did not contradict’ de Leon’s statement regarding the coining of the title. TAPE admitted this but insisted that TAPE chief Romeo Jalosjos Sr. was the one who chose it among the names recommended.

“Having sufficiently established how Petitioners coined the Eat Bulaga mark, it is petitioners [TVJ] and not Respondent-Registrant [TAPE] who owns the mark,” Alon said.

After claiming victory in the trademark dispute, TVJ finally mentioned it in their latest social media post. The caption written says, “Isang libo’t isang tuwa, buong bansa… buong mundo… Eat Bulaga!”

To recall, TVJ left EB on May 31, 2023. On June 30, they filed a complaint against TAPE for alleged “copyright infringement and unfair competition” after TAPE continued using the trademark on GMA. However, TAPE stopped using the theme song.

After TVJ and other Dabarkads left, Paolo Contis and former Manila Mayor Isko Moreno led the noontime show.
