Brave Cop Was Injured After Attempting to Stop Illegal Drag Race in QC
A brave cop was injured after attempting to stop a drag race along Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City.
Patrolman Selvin Razon, a member of the Tactical Motorcycle Riding Unit of QCPD Station 16, suffered injuries as he attempted to stop two cars engaged in what seemed to be a drag race.
According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Reynaldo Vitto, the station commander of QCPD Station 16, Patrolman Razon was on duty monitoring Mindanao Avenue Extension when he noticed two cars seemingly racing on the road on a Thursday evening (November 23, 2023).
Concerned about the noise and the presence of individuals with white towels, indicating a potential race, Patrolman Razon approached the scene.
“Nakita nung pulis natin na maingay ‘yung dalawang sasakyan at merong tao sa gitna na may dalawang white towel. So about to start. Inapproach ng pulis natin,” explained Vitto.
The police officer engaged in a conversation with the car’s driver and requested identification, but the driver attempted to flee.
“Sa driver’s seat niya kinukuha yung lisensya itinaas ngayon ‘yung bintana nung kanyang sasakyan. Naipit y’ung kanyang kamay. Hanggang sa hinarurot na ng suspek hanggang nakaladkad ‘yung pulis natin,” Vitto added.
After the incident, the injured police officer was not required to report on duty entry while receiving medical attention.
The 23-year-old driver, a third-year college student, was later turned over to the custody of QCPD after being surrendered by his father to barangay officials. The police located his car in San Mateo, Rizal. The suspect claimed he was unaware that the person stopping him was a police officer.
“‘Yung damit po niya kasi parang all black po so parang nag assume po ako pwede po siya maging carnapper or holdaper po so parang ang instinct ko po doon sa situation na po na ganon parang nagpanic po ako natakot po ako,” said the suspect.

The police are conducting follow-up operations to identify other individuals possibly involved in the drag race.
