PNP Says Family Dispute Among Angles Being Investigated in Victory Liner Incident

VICTORY LINER INCIDENT – The Philippine National Police (PNP) is investigating other angles in the shooting of two bus passengers, including a family dispute.

PNP found out during an investigation that the female victim identified as Gloria Mendoza Quillano from Cauayan, Isabela, filed carnapping charges against her son, who was temporarily released on bail.

Police Colonel Jean Fajardo, Chief of the Public Information Office (PIO) of the PNP, explained that beyond the alleged carnapping case, there were deeper conflicts within the family, leading to legal actions.

Fajardo, however, refrained from revealing further details to avoid compromising the ongoing investigation.

Medyo malalim po yung naging alitan ng mag-ina [na] maliban po dito sa alleged na pagfa-file ng kaso ng carnapping. But I’m not at liberty to discuss the other details para di po ma-compromise yung ongoing investigation,” Fajardo said.

The victims, a 60-year-old woman from Cauayan, Isabela, and a 55-year-old man from South Cotabato were shot inside a bus traveling in Nueva Ecija. A video capturing the incident went viral on Wednesday (November 15, 2023).

The police officer mentioned that investigators had spoken with the son of the female victim, who denied involvement in the crime.

PNP continues to find other evidence to identify the two suspects and the possible mastermind behind the shooting.

The police revealed that the female victim had a prior altercation before boarding the bus in Isabela. The suspects reportedly boarded the bus in Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya. Family members of the female victim stated that she had received life threats.

Investigators are also looking into whether the perpetrators had accomplices among the bus passengers. The victims’ trip to Tarlac was scheduled, and authorities are examining the possibility of someone providing information about their travel plans for an ambush.

According to Carranglan Police Station Chief Police Major Rey Ian Agliam, witnesses allegedly spotted the suspects climbing a mountainous area of Barangay Minuli after the incident, suggesting the possibility that the shooters were hired gunmen.
