PH Needs More Effective Action To Fight Text Scams

Scams through Text Continue amid Mandatory SIM Registration in PH

The Philippines need a more effective move to curb text scams that continue in the pursuit to victimize other people.

The law in the Philippines now mandate users of SIM cards to register so they can avail the services of the telecommunication providers. The SIM Registration Act or the Republic Act No. 11934 mandates the said SIM registration that includes both prepaid and postpaid SIMs.

The SIM Registration Act was the first measure signed by President Bongbong Marcos into a law. It was surrounded by issues about the safety of the personal information of the SIM card users. Meanwhile, a lot of people also favor its pursuit to fight scamming through text messages or calls.

The telecommunication providers were given enough time to set up registration sites for their clients. The Filipino SIM card users were also given several months to register their SIM card. Otherwise, they can no longer avail all the services provided by the telco firms.

Newly-bought SIM cards also require the user to register for activation. Millions of Filipinos abide by the mandate to mark themselves safe from the risk of unregistered SIM cards. However, even amid it, there are still text scams that circulate.

I believe the Philippines need a much powerful and effective action to fight text scams that continue to victimize some Filipinos. Unfortunately, there were several cases of text scams when innocent individuals lost their hard-earned money because of people who have these ill intentions.

While not everyone may be fooled by these text scams, it will be best if the government exerts maximum efforts to curb it — or much better, to finally stop it. It will not only safeguard a lot of individuals’ finances but as well as the overall safety of being unreachable by people who wants to take advantage of others.
