Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Samar, October 27, 2023
EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.2 magnitude quake in Samar today, Friday, October 27, 2023.
Following the 4.5 magnitude earthquake in Surigao del Norte at around 3 AM today, another significant quake was recently recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in another province. According to the agency, the quake hit Samar today. It had a magnitude of 4.2.
The earthquake today that struck Samar, Friday, October 27, 2023, at 09:05 a.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit San Jose De Buan.
According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Samar was located at 12.13°North, 125.09°East – 011 km North 42° East of San Jose De Buan. It had a depth of focus of 028 kilometers.
Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. According to the quake-recording agency, Intensity II was felt and recorded in Can-Avid in Eastern Samar and Lope de Vega in Northern Samar. The following instrumental intensities were logged:

- Quinapondan, Eastern Samar
- Kawayan, Biliran
- Villareal, Samar
- Intensity II
- Rosario, Northern Samar
- Can-Avid, Eastern Samar
- Intensity III
- Catbalogan City, Samar
