EJ Obiena Refutes Doping Accusations After Sharing Lie Detector Test Results
Filipino pole vaulter EJ Obiena slammed doping accusations and proved his innocence with lie detector test results.
EJ Obiena’s team has strongly refuted the allegations of doping against the Filipino Olympian and pole vaulter, specifically those made by Anais, the wife of French pole vaulter Renaud Lavillenie.

During a virtual press conference held in Dubai, Obiena’s mentor James Lafferty provided detailed reasons why the world’s second-ranked pole vaulter is free from illegal substances. They pointed out that Obiena has successfully passed 34 drug tests administered by the World Anti-Doping Agency, including 11 this year.
In their efforts to dispute the doping accusations, Obiena’s camp took the additional step of having the athlete undergo two lie detector tests: a polygraph and the Eye Detect test. The Eye Detect test, as described on the Converus website, is a state-of-the-art lie detector that identifies lies by tracking subtle changes in eye behaviors.
The results of the Eye Detect test, as shared by Obiena’s camp, indicated that Obiena was “Truthful”, based on the report of GMA News. Obiena himself expressed his frustration after learning of the accusations made by Anais, the wife of the 2012 Olympic gold medalist, on social media.
Additionally, Obiena’s camp extended an invitation to Anais to undergo these lie detector tests at their expense. The camp is currently contemplating whether they will take legal action against Anais.
In a now-deleted post, Anais had suggested that Obiena would face a fate similar to that of Brazilian pole vaulter Thiago Braz, who was provisionally suspended for doping.
“Obiena doped and it’ll fall like Braz. Same coach, same plan, same objective,” Anais commented on the Facebook page of Vaulter Magazine.
