Call Center Agent Victim Rescued During Dramatic Hostage Taking Situation in Pasay, Suspect Arrested
A suspect in a dramatic hostage-taking incident in Pasay City was arrested, and the call center agent victim has been rescued.
A call center agent in Pasay City became the victim of a horrifying hostage situation on Saturday (October 14, 2023), resulting in a challenging rescue operation by the local authorities.
The incident happened around 6:00 p.m. The suspect allegedly took a call center agent hostage after feeling ignored when seeking help from the police. The suspect’s demands and actions captured the attention of a police officer, who attempted to negotiate with the agitated individual.
For over 30 minutes, the situation remained tense and dangerous. However, a crowd gathered during the incident and the onlookers rushed to the suspect to put an end to the hostage-taking situation.
Upon arriving at the Pasay police station, the suspect claimed that he had no knowledge of how he ended up in the city. He said he believed he was still in Baguio and had woken up to the surprise of being in Pasay.
Reportedly, he had sought help from the police to be taken to the hospital due to hurting legs but was not believed. According to the victim, she felt the broken bottle’s sharp edge pressed against her neck during the incident.
She begged the suspect not to hurt her, explaining that she had a family waiting for her. The suspect claimed that he was already bleeding and told the victim to move her hand, which was obstructing his own hand.
Pasay City Police Substation 3 Chief, Police Major Ryan Salazar, explained that the officers attempted to calm the suspect down and engage him in conversation. When an opportunity presented itself, they were able to seize the suspect and rescue the victim.
The suspect, who originally came from a province, had traveled to Manila in search of employment. Following the incident, he requested an ambulance, which was the police’s first response due to the perceived need for medical attention.
However, as the police turned their attention to arranging medical assistance, the suspect took the victim hostage. Currently, the victim is in stable condition, while the suspect faces multiple charges, including illegal detention, frustrated murder, and alarm and scandal.
