BASCO BATANES – This place in Batanes is located in Batan and is the capital of the province. Here are some spots you must see here.
The capital of the province of Batanes is Basco.
It has a domestic airport called Basco Airports which has flights from Manila and Baguio. This town is accordingly named after Capitán General José Basco, the Governor-General who pacified the islands during his time.

As for the places to see, there are a lot of breathtaking tourist spots in Batanes that will take you in pure awe. There’s definitely something more than the green slopes of the area, wild terrain, and blue waters.
Speaking of tourist spots, here are some that you will only see in Basco.
- Valugan Boulder Beach
This beach has a long stretch of pebbles and boulders – not your usual beach with fine white sands. The waters are too strong which makes this place unsafe for swimming but ideal for some relaxation.
- Vayang Rolling Hills
This is where your eyes will be filled with refreshing shades of green and waves of rolling hills. On a clear day, you will be able to see Sabtang, Itbayat, and Batan from here.
- Basco Lighthouse at Naidi Hills
This famous 66-foot lighthouse on top of Naidi Hill was constructed in 2002 and serves as a guide for seafarers. It is working at the present time and it doubles as a tourist attraction. - Japanese Tunnel
This is also known as Dipnaysupuan Japanese Tunnel which was built during World War II by the Ivatans, the locals, as ordered by the Japanese. - Fundacion Pacita Nature Lodge
This hotel was named after Pacita Abad, a prolific painter who was born in Batanes in 1946. This same place was her studio and in her lifetime, she was able to create 5,000 artworks. - Mt. Carmel Chapel
This church stands near the Pacita Lodge. This was built by Butch Abad for his parents. He is the brother of Pacita Abad.
- Chadpidan Boulder Beach
This is located on the west side of Basco and is a sister of Valugan Beach. In their dialect, Chadpidan means west and Valugan means east. - Sto. Domingo Cathedral
This church was built in the 18th century and is the first Catholic Church in Basco.
