Pura Luka Vega Released, Drag Artist Says No To Public Apology

Controversial personality Pura Luka Vega is now free but remains firm to not say sorry.

Drag artist Pura Luka Vega was released from police custody and has this statement about the public apology demanded from him.

After posting bail, Drag performer Pura Luka Vega was released from police custody on Saturday afternoon, October 7. He was released from the Santa Cruz Police Station at 2 p.m. confirmed by Manila Police District spokesperson PMaj. Philipp Ines.

It has been months since the name of the performer broke into the national consciousness. This is because of the viral and controversial “Ama Namin” performance which was described by many as blasphemous and disrespectful.

Numerous areas declared Pura persona non grata including Cebu City, Manila, and Marikina. The Philippines for Jesus Movement, a coalition of Christian groups, and the Hijos Del Nazareno Central also filed complaints for he apparently violated Article 201 of the Revised Penal Code and the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.

It has a recommended bail of Php 72,000.00 which was already paid and as stated above, he is now out on bail.

There were those who demanded a public apology from him, however, the artist refused to give it to them. He refuses to make a public apology as he believes that he has nothing to apologize for in the first place.

He added, “Cause I do apologize if they get offended but the ownership of Jesus is something that I think anyone can own. Anyone can have a strong belief of Jesus. Anyone can also express their faith, no matter how different it may be.”

To recall, Pura was arrested on Wednesday and this arrest has prompted his friends to organize a fundraiser show for his bail. Donation channels were also opened which collected an amount more than the amount of his bail.
