Millions of Filipinos are Social Security System members. More popularly called the SSS, membership to the state-run social insurance agency is mandated by most private companies and establishments to their employees in the country.

The members of the SSS submit a monthly contribution to the government agency based on the monthly earning of a member. Accumulated contributions can qualify a member to the SSS loans and other services offered by the state-run social insurance agency.

The SSS monthly contribution rate can be adjusted or updated on certain cases. This usually happens when a member wants bigger retirement benefits. You can check the details below.

Not all members of the Social Security System can freely and easily change their monthly contributions. As per the SSS Circular No. 2015-007, the members off the SSS who belong to these categories may update their SSS monthly contribution as well as the frequency:

Self-Employed Members

  • If below 55 years old, the Social Security System has set an unlimited number of updates.
  • If 55 years old and above, the monthly contributions can be raised only once a year and by one salary bracket from the last posted payment

Voluntary Members

  • If below 55 years old, the SSS allows unlimited number of updates allowed.
  • If 55 years old and above, the SSS monthly contribution is allowed for raise only once a year and by one salary bracket from the last posted payment

Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) Members

  • If below 55 years old, the state-run social insurance institution has set an unlimited number of updates allowed.
  • If 55 years old and above, the SSS monthly contributions can be raised only once a year and by one salary bracket from the last posted payment

Non-Working Spouse

In the case of the non-working spouse of the members of the Social Security System, he/she can change the rate of the SSS contribution at any age. However, with regards to the frequency of the changing of the rate, it will depend on the changes in the declared income of the working spouse.

According to the Social Security System, the voluntary, self-employed, and OFW members of the state-run social insurance agency who are 55 years old and below are allowed to decrease their monthly contributions but the rate should not be any amount lower than their MSC or their Monthly Salary Credit.

How to Update SSS Monthly Contribution via My.SSS
  • Log in to your My.SSS account.
  • Click “Payment Preference Number (PRN)”.
  • Click Generate PRN.
  • Pick your Membership Type, Applicable Period You Want To Pay for, and your new SSS contribution amount.
  • Copy the Payment Reference Number (PRN).
  • Make your monthly contributions to the SSS.
