Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Surigao del Sur, September 29, 2023

EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.9 magnitude quake in Surigao del Sur today, Friday, September 29, 2023.

Following the 4.9 magnitude earthquake in Occidental Mindoro a few days ago, another significant quake was recently recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in another province. According to the agency, the quake that hit Surigao del Sur has a magnitude of 4.9.

The earthquake today that struck Surigao del Sur, Friday, September 29, 2023, at 01:06 a.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Cagwait.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Surigao del Sur was located at 08.96°North, 126.73°East – 047 km North 85° East of Cagwait. It had a depth of focus of 018 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake but there might be aftershocks. According to the quake-recording agency, no intensity was recorded at the epicenter of the quake as well as the nearby areas. No intrumental intensity was recorded as well.
