Tricycle Driver Issues Public Apology for Overcharging Foreign Tourist Vlogger in Binondo, Manila
BINONDO, MANILA – A tricycle driver found himself in the precinct and has issued an apology for overcharging a foreign tourist vlogger.
On September 25, 2023, the tourist vlogger Chris Lewis uploaded a video of a tricycle driver who charged him P550 for a short tricycle ride. The incident occurred in the vicinity of Plaza Ruiz, Binondo, Manila. The video elicits reactions from the netizens.
PBGen Andre Perez Dizon ordered the apprehension of the tricycle driver, identified as Ryan Ancheta, a resident of Binondo in response to growing concerns over the incident.
The investigation into the matter revealed that the incident took place on December 8, 2022, when the content creator initially uploaded the video, earning nearly a thousand views.
The vlogger did not file a formal complaint against the tricycle driver, who had allegedly overcharged him for a ride spanning only one kilometer, from Binondo Church to the Planet Hotel along Juan Luna Street.
The tricycle driver, Ryan Ancheta Trinidad, issued an apology to Chris Lewis for his actions in demanding a P550 fare for such a short distance. He expressed regret for his behavior and the inconvenience it had caused the tourist blogger.
“Sana ho ay mapatawad niyo po ako sa aking nagawa, sana ho sa lahat ng kasamahan ko na driver huwag na huwag niyo po akong gagayahin. Maraming maraming salamat po kay sir Chris Lewis,” Ancheta said.
Ancheta took the opportunity to urge fellow tricycle drivers not to imitate his actions, pointing out the importance of fair practices when it comes to serving passengers and tourists.
