Maricel Soriano had a wonderful memories with Dolphy
Diamond Star Maricel Soriano shared the important lesson she learned from the late Comedy King Dolphy.
Maricel started her acting career at a young age. She was part of the iconic 80s sitcom John en Marsha in which Dolphy played his father in the said show. Because of that, she became close to the comedy icon. The show ran from 1973 to 1990. Practically, Maricel grew up in front of the camera and in that show.
In a recent press conference for her new series Pira-pirasong Pangarap, Maricel shared that Dolphy was one of her mentors in the industry. She considered him as her second father.
Maricel Soriano said that she learned a lot from the Comedy King. She said that Dolphy had a lot of “payo” to her. One of the things she learned from him is humility.
“Si Daddy Dolphy, siyempre siya yung maraming payo. Sabi niya, ‘Magpapakumbaba ka. Wag masyado matayog ang lipad ng saranggola ni Pepe,” she said. Then, she recalled the time when the late comedian called her “bruha.”
“‘Tsaka kailangan ko raw maintindihan na, ‘Hindi tatayo ang tao kasi mahihiya. Ikaw na ang magparaya, anak.’ Sabi ko, ‘Ang hirap ng pinagagagawa mo.’ ‘Bruha!’ sabi sa akin ni Daddy. Bruha raw ako! Ha-hahaha!” the Diamond Star shared.
Then, she said that when Dolphy died, that was the time when she understood what he really meant.
Over the years, Maricel has been trying to impart to the younger generation what she learned in showbiz, just like the young cast members of Pira-pirasong Pangarap. They would tell them not to be intimidated and the things they should not do when it comes to acting.
She would also remind them to always be prepared and do the things that they should do. Maricel Soriano has a positive outlook in life and it is because she said, “Kasi masaya ako sa kinalalagyan ko ngayon. Happy ako na andito pa ako. Kailangan pa nila ako.”
