Will PH Heal from Long-Standing Political Division that Breaks the Nation?
Philippines is undeniably a deeply divided country when you talk about politics and the gap seems to be deeper and deeper as time pass.
Every six years, the national election in the Philippines never fails to become one of the highlights in a specific year. It is when running candidates for different positions release the promises to woe the votes of the public. However, what is becoming more and more noticeable is that we, Filipinos, have somehow developed patronage out from the political divisiveness in the country.

Truth be told that there are Filipinos who are pro-Marcoses while there are also those who are against the controversial family in the political history of the country. There are also pro-Aquinos and there are also those who criticize the roles that the Aquinos have played in the history of the nation. Of course, there is also a portion of the Filipino populace who are neither pro-Marcoses or pro-Aquinos.
However, one thing that is clear as water in this scenario is that we already sometimes forget the real measure of choosing a leader because of our patronage to a family. There are even instances when some people were bashed because of their affiliation with a certain political family or the support they got from a certain political figure.
Now, we are living in a country where it seems like our political patronage is among the last things that we will ever give up. This has continued for several years already — of course under a reality that the same names are topping the elections in our country. It is one of the proof the political patronage in this nation really exists.
Will the country ever heal from its divisiveness due to the decade-long issues in the government? That we will see in the next years.
