Apart from the Greek gods and goddesses which are undeniably the most popular characters in Greek Myth, there are other creatures that have gained prominence, too. They were mentioned several times in different tales and their bear unique fictional features.

One of the most popular creatures in Greek Mythology was the minotaur. It was a half man, half full creature kept in a labrynth that was specifically made for its safekeeping. Its making is the root of the Daedalus and Icarus Summary in Greek Mythology. The former was the maker of the labrynth but King Minos tricked him and caged him and his son inside the labrynth.

When King Minos’ son, Androgeos, was killed while he was in Athens, the King decided to take revenge to the Athenians. Every seven or nine years, Athens had to send Athenian youths to be put inside the labrynth until the Minotaur will find them.

King Aegeus’ son, Theseus, could no longer endure the humiliating act done to their people every seven to nine years. On the third time of sending Athenian youths to Crete, he demanded to be one of those who will be sent.

When he arrived in Crete, Theseus met Ariadne, the daughter of King Minos. He fell in love with the King’s daughter who gave him a lame spinner. She told him to tie the end of the thread to the entrance of labrynth so he could find his way out after killing the Minotaur.

Theseus entered the labrynth and fought the Minotaur — which he defeated. He was able to find his way out of the dark arcades by following the advice of Ariadne. He took her with him in his boat and sailed to Athens.

However, there is another highlight of the Theseus and the Minotaur summary apart from the killing of creature. The Athenian and the daughter of King Minos stopped on the island of Naxos where they celebrated their love. However, in his dream, Dionysus appeared in Theseus’ dream and the god told him to leave the island without the woman.

Theseus left the island of Naxos leaving Ariadne behind. She became the wife of the god Dionysus. The lovers never met again since then.
