MTRCB condemns the threat that Lala Sotto received on social media

Movie and Television Review and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) released a statement on the threats directed to Chair Lala Sotto.

The head of the board has become a trending topic starting the time when the It’s Showtime producer was summoned because of the icing incident that Vice Ganda and Ion Perez had.

The criticism that the board and the chairwoman received did not stop there. Chair Sotto even received more intense criticism when the board released a decision suspending It’s Showtime.

However, the daughter of Tito Sotto defended the decision of MTRCB to suspend the noontime show. She said that the board under her leadership will be strict about this kind of issue.

In a statement released by the board on September 14, it condemned the threats that Chair Lala Sotto has been receiving these past weeks.

Over the past weeks, we have experienced an unfortunate surge in threatening messages on our official social media pages, including explicit rape and death threats directed at Chairperson Lala Sotto,” Vice Chairman Njel De Mesa said.

He added that Chair Sotto has been doing her best in doing her responsibility and always ensuring that the agency is doing its duty.

Executive Director Atty. Mamarico Sansarona Jr. said that just like any Filipino, Chair Sotto does not deserve the personal attacks and that they are happy that she is actively doing her function.

While the MTRCB recognizes the importance of constructive criticism and open dialogue, it strongly condemns any form of threats, harassment, or violence, both online and offline,” the board stated.

The board also stressed that it will continue its duty to ensure that movie and television content will align with the cultural values and norms of the Philippines.
