OCD Says 6.3 Magnitude Quake in Cagayan Injured 5 Individuals

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) has reported that five individuals were injured due to a collapsed wall following the 6.3-magnitude earthquake in Cagayan.

On Wednesday, September 13, 2023, the OCD stated that two of the injured individuals sustained brain trauma and head concussions, while the remaining three suffered minor injuries. These reports are currently under verification.

On Tuesday, September 12, 2023, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology initially recorded a 6.4-magnitude earthquake off the coast of Dalupiri Island in Calayan, Cagayan, which was later downgraded to 6.3 magnitude.

6.3 Magnitude Quake

Phivolcs has recorded a total of 99 aftershocks, ranging from magnitude 1.5 to 3.7, with depths varying from eight to 29 kilometers as of 8 a.m. today.

Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported, and there have been no accounts of substantial damage to infrastructure or displaced individuals in the wake of the earthquake.

Local disaster response units, including the OCD Region II and the Cagayan and Isabela Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (PDRRMCs), are actively monitoring and assessing the situation.

In response to the earthquake, the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Operations Center has sent warning messages to residents in the affected areas, forwarding emergency alerts.

NDRRMC has placed search and rescue teams on high alert and standby to provide immediate assistance. The agency has assured that assistance is readily available for distribution to affected residents.
