PAGASA Releases Latest Update on Typhoon Hanna
HANNA PH – The state weather bureau PAGASA reported that Tropical Cyclone Hanna has intensified into a typhoon.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said in its 11 a.m. bulletin that Tropical Cyclone Hanna has intensified into a typhoon. It will enhance the southwest monsoon, which will bring heavy rainfall over the country.
Hanna was last spotted 785 kilometers east northeast of Basco, Batanes packing maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour, and gustiness 785 kilometers east northeast of Basco, Batanes packing maximum sustained winds of 120 kph.
The typhoon is moving westward at 20 kph and is expected to reach its peak intensity on Saturday (September 2). The weather disturbance may bring rainfall in elevated or mountainous areas.
The enhanced habagat will bring gusty conditions and monsoon rains over Batanes, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Zambales, Bataan, Aurora, Bulacan, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, and the northern portion of Eastern Visayas within the next three days.
The weather agency has also warned the residents in the affected areas to observe precautionary measures for hazards such as flash floods and landslides.

“Under these conditions, flooding and rain-induced landslides are expected especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazard maps and in localities that experienced considerable amounts of rainfall for the past several days,” PAGASA said.
Hanna is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Sunday (September 3, 2023).
PAGASA also raised a gale warning for most of the seaboards of Luzon and Western Visayas, and the seaboard of Northern Samar. “Disruption in civilian maritime activities is expected over these areas,” the weather bureau added.
