QCPD to File Alarm & Scandal Charges vs Ex-Cop in Viral Road Rage Incident

Ex-Cop in Viral Road Rage Incident to Face Alarm & Scandal Charges Filed by QCPD

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) is preparing to press charges of alarm and scandal against the former police officer involved in the viral road rage incident.

Earlier this week, the video footage of an intense road rage incident between a vehicle driver and a cyclist becomes the headlines of several local news outlets and various social media pages.

In the video, the driver not only physically assaulted the cyclist but also brandished a firearm. The suspect’s actions prompted the Land Transportation Office to issue a show-cause order against him.

The Firearms and Explosives Office revoked the gun license of the retired policeman, as his behavior serves as grounds for license revocation and cancellation.

On Tuesday (August 29, 2023), QCPD Chief Police Brigadier General Nicolas Torre III announced that four police officers are already at the City Hall to formally file charges against the ex-policeman responsible for assaulting a cyclist and wielding a firearm during a traffic altercation.

Torre explained that the footage taken on August 8, 2023 will be used as evidence against the accused identified as Wilfredo Gonzales. The filing of the complaint was delayed due to the video only surfacing online on August 27, 2023.

“As we speak right now, Galas Police Station is on the way to the, actually nandoon na sila sa City Hall, to the Office of the Prosecutor, because they are filing a case of alarm and scandal against the person,” Torre said.

The police officers vehemently denied allegations suggesting their involvement in an alleged settlement between Gonzales and the cyclist. Torre clarified that his personnel conducted themselves professionally during the negotiation process.

“In due time, we will show na ‘yung mga accusations na ‘yan ay hindi totoo dahil ang ating mga pulis acted professionally dito sa case na ito,” he added.

The social media users expressed their reactions to the QCPD’s move:
