Police Authorities Arrest Alleged Dog Meat Trader in Bataan

BATAAN, PHILIPPINES – The police authorities arrested an alleged dog meat trader, seven dogs have been rescued during the operation.

In a recent operation led by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Bataan, a man was apprehended on suspicions of involvement in the dog meat trade. The operation, carried out in coordination with the Animal Kingdom Foundation, resulted in the rescue of seven dogs.

The operation takes place on a house located in Limay, where the raiding team was confronted with a heartbreaking sight – seven dogs confined within a cramped enclosure. Some of the dogs have their mouths bound shut by wires, while others were seemingly pleading for help.

Alleged Dog Meat

The AKF had received reports of ongoing dog meat trading activities in the area, prompting them to launch an investigation. The information led them to the specific location, where they confirmed the presence of activities related to the trading and selling of dog meat.

AKF program director Atty. Heidi Caguioa explained that the extent of the operation seemed to depend on orders received. It remains unclear whether the dogs were purchased from individuals or merely captured off the streets.

“May nag-report sa amin na may ongoing dog meat trading activity diyan sa Bataan, so we sought for more details and naituro nga sa amin itong lugar na ito, at nag-conduct kami ng verification at apparently meron nga na activities na nangyayari diyan involving dog meat trading, dog meat selling,” Caguioa said.

The individual arrested on charges of violating the Animal Welfare Act was identified as Anthony Bueno, the alleged dog meat trader. However, Bueno declined to provide any statement regarding the situation.
