PAGASA Says Habagat to Bring Scattered Rain Over Parts of the Country

PAGASA LATEST UPDATE – The state weather bureau has reported that the habagat will bring scattered rain over Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

On Tuesday (August 15, 2023), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update for the country. The southwest monsoon will affect the country’s weather conditions.

PAGASA reported that the habagat will bring a cloudy weather conditions with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Palawan, Western Visayas, and the Zamboanga Peninsula.

“Patuloy pa ring umiiral ang southwest monsoon o habagat dito sa bahagi ng Southern Luzon, Visayas, at Mindanao, kung saan ngayong araw, makakaranas pa rin ng maulap na kalangitan at mga kalat-kalat na pag-ulan ang kanlurang bahagi ng Southern Luzon, Visayas, at Mindanao,” Pagasa weather specialist Grace Castañeda said.

The southwest monsoon and localized thunderstorms will also bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over the rest of Visayas, Kalayaan Islands, Occidental Mindoro, Bicol Region, Northern Samar, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, and Romblon.

Metro Manila and the remaining parts of the country will experience similar weather conditions. Badrina said that 26-degree to 31-degree Celsius weather is expected over Metro Manila during the afternoon despite the isolated rain showers.

“‘Wag kayo mabibigla kung may pag-ulan sa madaling-araw pero pagdating ng alas 9, mainit na. Ito ‘yung isolated thunderstorms, ibig sabihin ang sistema na nagpapaulan ay hindi malaki,” he added.

The weather agency has advised the residents in the affected areas to take precautionary measures for possible flash floods and landslides due to moderate with at times heavy rains and severe thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, the coastal water conditions over Luzon will be moderate to rough, while Visayas and Mindanao will have slight to moderate surrounding sea conditions, according to the weather bureau.

PAGASA said that no weather disturbances are expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility within the next few days.
