PAGASA Says Southwest Monsoon to Bring Scattered Rain Over Parts of PH

PAGASA UPDATE – The state weather bureau PAGASA reported that southwest monsoon will bring scattered rain over parts of Luzon.

On Tuesday (August 8, 2023), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. The southwest monsoon will affect the country’s weather condition.

PAGASA is currently monitoring a tropical cyclone outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility. It was last spotted at 2,820 kilometers east northeast of extreme northern Luzon.

The tropical cyclone has maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 70 kph.

“Meron tayong namataang bagyo o tropical depression sa labas ng ating area of responsibility dito yan sa may east northeast ng extreme northern Luzon at hindi natin ito nakikita na papasok sa ating area of responsibility at sa kasalukuyan ay wala rin itong direct effect sa mga bahagi ng ating bansa,” weather specialist Grace Castañeda said.

Habagat will bring cloudy weather condition with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Sur.

It will also bring partly cloudy to cloudy weather with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms over Bicol region, Northern Samar, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque and Romblon.

The Southwest Monsoon/Localized Thunderstorms will bring similar weather condition over Visayas, Palawan including Kalayaan Islands and Occidental Mindoro as well as Metro Manila and the remaining parts of the country.

The weather agency has warned the public for possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains and severe thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, the coastal water condition over extreme Northern Luzon will be rough, the rest of Luzon will have moderate to rough waters while Visayas and Mindanao will have slight to moderate surrounding sea conditions.
