Tito Sotto Reacts To TAPE’s ‘Eat Bulaga’ Trademark Renewal

Tito Sotto stressed that they have the ‘Eat Bulaga’ copyright

Veteran showbiz personality Tito Sotto reacted to the release of the certification of renewal of registration of TAPE Inc. stating that the production company still has the Eat Bulaga trademark.

The camp of TAPE and Tito or the TVJ have been fighting over the title of the longest-running noontime show. For 44 years, Eat Bulaga has become part of the noontime routing of many Filipinos. However, fans and avid viewers have mixed reactions when TVJ and the legit Dabarkads decided to leave the production company, majorly owned by Romy Jalosjos.

Even though Tito, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon started their show on TV5 with the title E.A.T., they are still hoping to get the right to use the title that the Henyo Master created.

Just recently, Atty. Maggie Abraham-Garduque, the legal counsel of TAPE, showed proof that the production company has the Eat Bulaga trademark. It was a Certificate of Renewal of Registration from the Intellectual Property Office of The Philippines (IPOPHIL). This was signed by Director Jesus Antonio Ros of the Bureau of Trademarks

Garduque said that this document is very important because just like a land title, this certificate will prove that TAPE has ownership over the trademark Eat Bulaga. The production company can use the trademark for the next 10 years.

Despite TAPE’s trademark document, Tito Sotto reiterated that they have they own the copyright, based on the article in NewsKo. In a message to the news outlet, the former Senate President said, “Trademark but not COPYRIGHT. Copyright ang amin. Magsawa sila sa trademark basta amin ang copyright!”

Tito once again stressed that it was Joey who coined the title of the show back in 1979.
