The Social Security System offers a Funeral Benefit that the person who spent for the deceased member’s funeral can turn to for reimbursement. Here are the eligibility requirements for the SSS Funeral Benefit in the case of the deceased member:

  • If employed, the employer must have reported the member to the SSS for coverage.
  • If self-employed, a non-working spouse of an SSS member, or an overseas Filipino worker (OFW), the member must have posted at least one (1) monthly contribution.

It is important to keep the original copies of the receipts of the payments made in line with the burial of the deceased SSS member. It will be a part of the basis of the SSS in making calculations for the cash benefit to be given to the filer.
