Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Davao Occidental, August 3, 2023
EARTHQUAKE TODAY – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.8 magnitude quake in Davao Occidental today, August 3, 2023.
Following the 4.2 magnitude earthquake in Eastern Samar a few days ago, another significant quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake hit a part of Davao Occidental, specifically Balut Island. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 4.8.
The earthquake that struck Davao Occidental today, Thursday, August 3, 2023, at 01:39 p.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Balut Island.
According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Davao Occidental was located at 03.13°North, 128.41°East – 417 km South 53° East of Balut Island in Sarangani. It had a depth of focus of 192 kilometers.
Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. According to the quake-recording agency, no intensity was recorded at the epicenter of the quake as well as the nearby areas.
