Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake in Eastern Samar, August 1, 2023
EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.2 magnitude quake in Homonhon Island in Eastern Samar, August 1, 2023.
Following the 5.5 magnitude earthquake in Apayao yesterday, another significant quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake hit a part of Eastern Samar, specifically Homonhon Island. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 4.2.
The earthquake that struck Eastern Samar, Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at 10:48 p.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Homonhon Island in Guiuan.
According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Eastern Samar was located at 10.64°North, 126.08°East – 040 km South 74° East of Homonhon Island in Guiuan. It had a depth of focus of 014 kilometers.
Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. According to the quake-recording agency, no intensity was felt and recorded due to the said quake. No instrumental intensity was recorded as well.
