Anti-Terrorism Council Declares Arnie Teves & 12 Others as Terrorists

On Tuesday, August 1, 2023, Negros Oriental Representative Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves Jr. and 12 others were designated as terrorists by the Anti-Terrorism Council.

On July 26, 2023, the Anti-Terrorism Council approved Resolution No. 43, designating Arnie Teves and other individuals as terrorists due to their violations of several provisions of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Teves, along with Pryde Henry A. Teves, Marvin H. Miranda, Rogelio C. Antipolo, Rommel Pattaguan, Winrich B. Isturis, John Louie Gonyon, Daniel Lora, Eulogio Gonyon Jr., Tomasino Aledro, Nigel Electona, Jomarie Catubay, and Hannah Mae Sumero Oray, were reportedly involved in training, planning, and facilitating acts of terrorism.

Based on the investigation of various law enforcement agencies, it was established that Cong. Teves Jr. and his group have an organizational structure showing a strict command and control mechanism. It shows that Cong. Teves Jr. is the leader and mastermind of the group, while Pryde Henry Teves and Nigel Electona, among others, provide material support,” the resolution reads.

The fugitive lawmaker was accused of being the mastermind behind the assassination of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo. However, Teves and his camp repeatedly denied the allegations.

The suspect went abroad last February 2023 and has refused to return to the country due to the multiple charges filed against him.

Aside from involvement in the Degamo slaying, Teves has reportedly been involved in several incidents causing harm to Negros Oriental residents.

The Anti-Money Laundering Council may freeze the assets of Teves and other individuals designated as terrorists based on the anti-terror law.
