Joey de Leon shared a post about Maine Mendoza and Arjo Atayde’s wedding
Henyo Master Joey de Leon defended celebrity couple Maine Mendoza and Arjo Atayde following TV Patrol anchor Noli de Castro’s comment on their wedding.
Joey was one of the principal sponsors or ninong of Maine and Arjo. During the EAT hosts’ bridal shower for the bride, Joey, along with Tito and Vic Sotto, already confirmed that the Phenomenal Star will be their “inaanak.”
The couple tied the knot on July 28 in Baguio City. It was a very private event as the couple really intended to make it an intimate event for them and their loved ones.
On that same day, some areas of the Philippines were suffering greatly because of Super Typhoon Egay. During a commentary after the news report, veteran news anchor Noli de Castro, together with other anchors Karen Davila, Bernadette Sembrano, and Henry Omaga-Diaz, had their commentary about Maine and Arjo’s wedding.
Karen said that it is indeed possible to have a private wedding even though the couple are famous celebrities. She even shared that when she got married, they only have 20 guests.
Kabayan Noli said, “Kayo naman habang kinakasal, kawawa naman ang binagyo.” He was reminded by Karen and Bernadette to just chill but he continued, “Hindi, hindi. Si Egay na kalalabas lang ay may papalit naman na si Falcon. At ang possiblity na maaaring ang dinaanan ni Egay ay dadaanan din ni Falcon at mabigat ‘yang pasanin sa ating mga kababayan na hindi pa nakakabangon hanggang ngayon.”
This did not sit well with the fans of the celebrity couple. They pointed out that it was not Maine and Arjo’s fault that the typhoon landed in the Philippine area of responsibility on their wedding day.
Joey de Leon also shared his reaction to this. Although the Henyo Master did not mention any name in his Twitter post, it is pretty much clear that he was talking about Noli de Castro’s comment on Maine and Arjo’s wedding.
The veteran comedian-host pointed out that the celebrity couple has already planned for their wedding even before the typhoon came and they should not be blamed for it.
His tweet once again featured his talent in wordplay. “Sa mga kababayan nating ume-epal na hindi raw dapat nagpakasal ang dalawang ito dahil binabagyo raw ang bayan, eto lang ang masasabi ko—-naunang nagplano sina Menggay kaysa kay Egay! Wala silang kasalanan kundi ang unang limang letra ng “kasalanan”—-KASAL!” the Henyo Master wrote.
