Not all foods that are healthy for humans are safe for dogs. Thus, to keep your furbabies healthy, it is important to extra careful on what you give your dogs. There are a lot of human food ingredients that are toxic to them.

Foods Bad for Dogs

Responsible dog owners take consideration of a lot of things — making sure the dogs are eating a healthy diet, they are taking vitamins, the dogs are comforted on New Year’s eve and other stress-igniting events, and a lot more.

When it comes to food, here are some of the human foods that are bad for dogs because of certain ingredients they contain:

Avocado

Avocadoes may be healthy for humans but not for dogs. It contains persin which is toxic for dogs and can trigger diarrhea and vomiting. Also, the intake of this fruit can cause the fluid to accumulate in the lungs and chest of dogs leading to breathing difficulties and worst, death due to oxygen deprivation.

Apple, Apricot, Cherry, & Plum Seeds/Pits

The flesh of a lot of fruits including apple is safe for dogs. However, their seeds and pits are toxic for dogs as they may contain cyanide and intervene with the way the red blood cells carry oxygen to the cells.

Consumption of the seeds can trigger vomiting, seizures, and irregular heartbeats among dogs. The result can as worst as coma and death.

Broccoli

The foods that are bad for dogs when given in huge amounts is broccoli, a type of vegetable that is healthy for humans. It contains isothiocyanates which is toxic for dogs and there is also a possibility that a stalk will get stuck in your dog’s throat.

Chocolate

No matter how much you love to eat chocolates or how delicious they are, never give them to your dog. It contains theobromine which is toxic for dogs. It can result to vomiting, hyperactivity, abnormal heartbeats, seizures, diarrhea, and pancreatitis.

Onions, Garlic, Chives & Leeks

While they make your food taste better, it is not a wise move to give them or foods with these ingredients to your dogs. They are bad for dog’s health as they contain sulfoxides and disulfides which are toxic for dogs. They can damage the red blood cells of your furbabies and cause anemia.

Raw Tomatoes & Potatoes

Pets Best also noted that while giving ripe tomatoes and boiled potatoes to dogs are both okay, the raw versions of tomato and potato are among the foods bad for dogs. Based on the article, they contain solanine which is toxic for dogs. It can trigger breathing difficulties, heart problem, and gastrointestinal problems among dogs.
