Essentials

Water bottle: If you run out, you can resupply while walking the trail. A filter or water purifier should be brought along if you have a sensitive stomach. Water filtration is portable with the Bobble Water Bottle. To eliminate the bacteria, you can also use a pump/infrared stick, or tablets that you drop into the water.

Food: Pack your own energy-boosting trail food, something small but sweet or salty. Consider chocolate, trail mix, mixed nuts, etc. Pack adequate food and snacks for the journey as hiking frequently entails camping out in the wilderness or staying the night.

Lip Balm: Apply a generous layer of lip balm to keep your lips soft and protected from windburn. To nourish and shield your lips from the damaging rays of the sun, choose one with SPF.

Sunscreen: Although you may not notice it, climbing exposes you to UV radiation. Bring a lightweight sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 50. Moreover, because the cold will dry out your skin, protect the skin by selecting an emollient or moisturizing product.

Finally, once you’ve reached the top, take in the renowned but elusive “sea of clouds” during the day and the nighttime sky filled with countless sparkling stars!

Comfortable Shoes: Shoes for hiking are highly advised. But if this is your first time, you can wear cross-training sneakers. Make sure they fit well because you’ll be trekking for hours while carrying a large bag.

Change of clothes: Pack spare clothing you can put on once you get to the campsite. It is advised to use quick-drying undergarments and clothing; cotton does not wick perspiration as quickly. Try wearing compression shorts or cycling shorts to prevent chafing and skin irritation.

Flashlight/headlamp: Your hands are free if you use headlamps to stabilize yourself while climbing. Keep an eye out at your local hardware shop for cheap flashlights or headlamps.
