Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake in Sarangani, July 17, 2023

EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 5.3 magnitude quake in Sarangani, Monday, July 17, 2023.

Following the 4.6 magnitude earthquake that hit Sulu a few months ago, another significant quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake hit a part of Sarangani. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 5.3.

The earthquake that struck Sarangani, Monday, July 17, 2023, at 11:35 p.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Maitum in Sarangani.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Sarangani was located at 05.74°North, 124.19°East – 049 km South 44° West of Maitum. It had a depth of focus of 001 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake but there is a possibility of aftershocks. According to the quake-recording agency, the following intensities were felt in these areas:

    • Balut Island, Sarangani

  • South Cotabato
    • T’boli
