Miss Philippines Tourism 2023 is actress-beauty queen Herlene Budol. She may not be able to get the top crown but she is happy with her win. This November, she will be competing in London for the international competition representing the Philippines.
Apart from the title, she also won these special awards:
- Best in Runway
- Miss Ever Bilena
- Miss Arena Plus
- Miss Mermaid Manila Hair
- Miss Blue Water Day Spa
Online, her stint in the beauty pageant became a trending topic and caught the attention of many viewers due to her remarks onstage which were comedic and hilarious.
Several videos of her during the competition were shared on Twitter and Facebook and some social media users also transformed these into memes.
Before the Q&A portion, candidates were given the chance to present their goals, and during her time, she uttered “Wooohhh” amid her speech that made the people laugh. In her speech, she said that her goal is to end forms of online harassment in the country.
And on the Q&A portion, she used an interpreter. She was asked in English and her interpreter will relay it to her in Tagalog. The question was: “What do you think is the most urgent problem among Filipino youth sector and how do you plan to address the issue?”
It was translated to Tagalog before she answered but she asked to repeat the question.
Her answer was:
“Para sa akin, ang pinakamalubhang problema ngayon ng mga kabataan ay ang edukasyon. Dahil ang kailangan ng mga kabataan ngayon ay ang edukasyon para mamulat sa kinabukasan. At naniniwala pa rin po ako sa kasabihan na ang kabataan ay ang pag-asa ng bayan. At para maging pangdayo tayo, taas noo dahil Pilipino tayo. Kagaya ko, maliit lang ang bansa ko pero ipinagmamalaki ko.”
