Megan Young on Mothers, Married Women, Trans in Beauty Pageants

Megan Young was asked about this popular pageant issue

Kapuso actress Megan Young shared her thoughts on mothers, married women, and transwomen joining beauty pageants initially opened for single and naturally-born women only.

For many years, local and international pageants almost share the same set of rules when it comes to accepting candidates. Previously, those who are unmarried, as well as never had a child, and naturally-born women were the basic qualifications.

However, as the pageant world is facing a new era, major rules were changed. Many international pageants have now opened their doors to married women, mothers, and even transwomen.

This change garnered polarizing comments from former beauty queens and pageant enthusiasts. Based on the article in Bandera, Miss World 2013 Megan Young was also asked about this during an interview for her new series Royal Blood in which her husband Mikael Daez is also one of the cast members.

Mikael was the one who answered first with a jest. “Ay, sasali siya ulit sa Miss World, puwede na! 2024 sasali daw siya ulit para double crown na raw siya,” he said.

When Megan answered this, she said that she is open to these changes. “Ako, I’m all for it! I embrace, you know, the new changes, it’s a changing world din naman, so I’m excited for the future in pageantry,” the Kapuso actress said.

She understands that pageantry will not be always the same. The actress cited that years ago, Miss World and Miss Universe are so different from what they are now. “Yung nire-represent nila dati iba na rin ngayon. So I’m excited to see where pageantry will also be in the next twenty years,” Megan Young added.
