Darryl Yap Speaks on the Arrest of Awra Briguela Over Brawl in a Bar
The controversial director Darryl Yap expresses reaction to the arrest of actor Awra Briguela following his arrest.
Yap resorted to social media to voice his feelings at the former child star’s conviction after being involved in a scuffle outside a Makati City pub. After photographs and videos of Awra getting detained circulated on social media, he went viral.
Awra was allegedly involved in a brawl after attempting to protect his female companion from a harasser. The actor received overwhelming support from his famous friends and supporters, particularly from the LGBTQIA+ community.
Meanwhile, the controversial director conveys his feelings on the Awra situation. Yap also posted a video that was sent to him and was supposedly filmed inside the police station where Awra was taken after being arrested.
The director claims that this is not a gender issue because the person speaking to Awra, who is transgender, is a female police officer. Yap further complained that people are straining to make their cause acceptable, despite the fact that Awra is clearly the perpetrator.
“This is not a gender-based issue because the person talking to a trans there is a female police officer. While we’re struggling to make our cause acceptable… Are we still going to use this as a cover-up? Are we going to create stories to make the more aggressive one appear as a victim?” Yap said in his post.
As someone who works in showbiz, I know that image is important, but is it just about image? What about those who have seen it there, the actual witnesses—ordinary citizens who know the truth, we are betraying the trust and admiration of the majority,” he added.
He also stated that the issue with Awra is one of how a person behaves in a drinking establishment, how they treat others, how they respond to authority, and how they see themselves, as they denigrate the family names of those in uniform to emphasize power. He further stated that Awra’s case is not a gender issue, but rather one of an influencer under the influence of alcohol.
“The issue with Awra is an issue of how a person behaves in a drinking place, how they treat others, how they respond to the authorities and how they see themselves, as they belittle the family names of those in uniform to emphasize influence. This is not a gender-based issue, it is simply about an influencer under the influence of alcohol,” he added in his post.

Totally agree to you Darryl Yap. Let us repect our lawenforcers task to maintain peace and order. I noticed with the acceptance of SOGIE of the LGBTQ + community, it does not mean being above the law. GMRC is now a lost value in our gen z youth nowadays. The law applies to ALL or not at all.
