Active Cop Selling Illegal Firearms Arrested Along with Cohort Ex-Security Guard

Police authorities arrested an active cop and his cohort ex-security guard for allegedly selling illegal firearms.

Criminal Investigation and Detection Group agents apprehended illicit weapons and ammo sellers in Sto Tomas City, Batangas. PSMS Carlito Chavez Escorsa Jr, a PNP personnel stationed at Sto Tomas CPS, was recognized as one of the illegal merchants.

Meanwhile, Ramil Funtanar Esperanzate, a former security guard, was revealed as his cohort. They were apprehended by operatives of the CIDG Batangas Provincial Intelligence Unit, along with the PNP-IMEG and other local PNP operating units, under the Oplan “Paglalansag Omega” in Barangay San Antonio, Sto Tomas City, according to CIDG head Maj Gen Romeo Caramat Jr.

These suspects are selling unauthorized firearms through social media or online contact, which came to our attention, so we performed a buy-bust operation, which was successful, according to Caramat. He further stated that the two suspects face charges for violating RA 10591, also known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

Based on the report, one M16 Rifle (Colt), five pieces of long steel magazine for an M16 rifle, two pieces of short steel magazine for an M16 rifle, two pieces of ammunition guide for an M16 rifle, and 67 rounds of ammunition for an M16 rifle were seized from the suspects.

Aside from the guns, there were two mobile phones, one legitimate P500 with the boodle money, and one cloth bag. The arrested people and confiscated evidence were transported to the CIDG Batangas PFU Office for documentation and disposition.
