Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake in Surigao del Norte, June 29, 2023

EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 5.1 magnitude quake in Burgos, Surigao del Norte, Thursday, June 29, 2023.

Following the 4.6 magnitude earthquake that hit Sulu a few months ago, another significant quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake hit a part of Surigao del Norte. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 5.1.

The earthquake that struck Surigao del Norte on Thursday eve, June 29, 2023, at 07:30 p.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Burgos.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Surigao del Norte was located at 10.34°North, 126.86°East – 093 km North 68° East of Burgos. It had a depth of focus of 007 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake but there may be aftershocks. According to the quake-recording bureau, Intensity II was felt in the town of Burgos and Pilar in Surigao del Norte. No instrumental intensities were recorded as well.
