Iloilo City Declared Bacolod Vice Mayor “Persona Non Grata” for Sending Badjaos
The Mayor of Iloilo City has declared the vice mayor of Bacolod City “persona non grata” for allegedly sending badjaos to their city.
Iloilo City has proclaimed the vice-mayor of Bacolod City persona non grata after he allegedly transported numerous Badjaos from Bacolod. Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treas proclaimed Bacolod City Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran persona non grata in an executive order.
The mayor expressed his dissatisfaction with the lack of coordination in the arrival of 80 Badjao from Bacolod who disembarked from Dumangas port in Iloilo on Friday. According to the report, the moved Badjaos include 13 families and 20 youngsters.
According to Familirian, they do not intend to detain the Badjaos apprehended by the Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD) on June 21. He stated that the Badjaos will be transported to Jolo, Sulu using a roll-on-roll-off (Ro-Ro) vessel from the port of Bacolod directly to Jolo, Sulu, rather than via Iloilo.
They did not expect the Badjao to visit the city because they had already committed to return to their hometown. Meanwhile, Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez sent his “sincere apologies” to the Iloilo municipal government and Treas for the error.
“Dahil sa dami ng mga pamilyang na-handle ng task force, nabigo itong maayos na makipag-ugnayan sa probinsya ng Iloilo hinggil sa pagdating ng mga pamilyang ito mula sa Bacolod,” said Benitez.
Benitez assured the mayor of Iloilo City that Bacolod would not make the same mistake again. Familiaran, on the other hand, apologized to Treas for the Badjaos’ actions.
