Commuter Shoots Taxi Driver for Refusing to Give Him a Ride
A taxi driver in Quezon City was wounded after being shot by a man he allegedly refused to pick up as a passenger.
The taxi driver sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and was immediately rushed to the hospital. The incident occurred on Mindanao Avenue.
According to the police, the suspect hailed the taxi and intended to be taken to Cubao. However, the driver declined the request. Suddenly, the suspect started banging on the taxi, prompting the driver to step out and confront him.

“Dahil iniisip ng suspek na nagtiti-threat na ‘yung biktima ay naglabas na po siya ng baril sa kaniyang bag at pinutukan na po iyong biktima,” Project 6 Police Station head Police Lieutenant Colonel Richard Mepania.
A traffic enforcer witnessed the commotion and quickly sought assistance from the police. The 64-year-old suspect was apprehended, and the revolver loaded with ammunition was confiscated from him.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the suspect possessed a valid license for the firearm and a permit to carry it outside of his residence.
Mepania stated that they have already requested the revocation of the suspect’s license from the Firearms and Explosive Office.
Meanwhile, the suspect, who admitted to committing the crime, claimed that he was merely defending himself. He explained that when he started banging on the taxi, the driver intended to assault him. Feeling threatened, he decided to shoot, unintentionally hitting the driver.
“Nung kinalampag ko bumababa siya, susugurin niya ako. Nagulat ako na susugurin ako, nabigla rin ako sa kaniya. Papuputukan ko lang sana siya, tinamaan naman pala,” the suspect explained.
Law enforcement agencies continue to encourage individuals to report any suspicious or threatening behavior promptly. This incident highlights the importance of prompt action by authorities and the community to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone.
