Bikoy Found Guilty of Perjury vs Duterte and 3 FLAG Lawyers

Bikoy Found Guilty of Perjury Over Claims Against Duterte and 3 FLAG Lawyers

The hooded figure in the viral video Peter Joemel “Bikoy” Advincula was found guilty of perjury against ex-president Rodrigo Duterte and 3 lawyers.

Bikoy was sentenced to prison for lying against three lawyers from the Free Legal Assistance Group (FLAG). In 2019, “Bikoy” was hooded in a viral video in which he accused former President Rodrigo Duterte and his family of being involved in the illegal drug trade.

Advincula was sentenced to up to one year in prison on May 24 by Metropolitan Trial Court Branch 17 Judge Karla Funtila-Abugan of Manila City after being found guilty in the perjury case filed by lawyers Chel Diokno, Erin Taada, and Theodore Te. Advincula was accused of “willful and deliberate” lying when he implicated them in an alleged plot to depose then-President Rodrigo Duterte.

Bikoy Guilty Perjury

While Advincula initially charged the Duterte family with drug trafficking in 2019, he later implicated other opposition individuals in a purported attempt to depose the then-president through the “Ang Totoong Narco-list” films.  Based on the report, Diokno, Taada, and Te rejected Advincula’s allegations while pursuing a case against him.

Advincula said in 2019 that he met with then-Vice President Leni Robredo, Diokno, Taada, and other Otso Diretso senatorial candidates at the Ateneo de Manila University in Quezon City to discuss how to boost their electoral chances. The majority of Otso Diretso candidates, including Diokno and Taada, denied meeting Advincula, while Robredo and former Solicitor General Florin Hilbay claimed they were nowhere near Ateneo that day.

Advincula also claimed he met with Te and another lawyer on May 2, 2019, days after the films were posted online, to “finalize” his “exposure.” He pointed to a press conference held a few days later at the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) office in Ortigas.

While the former Supreme Court spokeswoman acknowledged meeting Advincula, he stated that the meeting was on a different day and was just to determine whether FLAG could handle his case. Finally, FLAG declined and referred him to the IBP.  Advincula previously stated that all of the details in his affidavit were factual and supported by evidence.
