Accusations against Liza Diño continue to surface
Former Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) chairperson Liza Diño defended the council’s decision to give jobs to her partner singer Ice Seguerra.
Aside from mismanagement accusations and the alleged lavish expenses during her term, Liza is also accused of giving favor to Ice, as the latter has been doing performances in events organized by FDCP.
Sources revealed the complaints against the former chairperson. In a follow-up write-up about this issue on PEP’s site, it was also revealed that Liza’s process of getting talents was being questioned.
When asked about this, Liza Diño said that just like how they would commission other artists, she just did the same process with Ice Seguerra.
“Just like how we reach out to various filmmakers and artists as mentors, speakers, resource persons for our programs and events, I reach out to Ice Seguerra, one of the top entertainment icons of the country, to help the agency mount our events and perform,” the former FDCP chairperson explained.
Liza added that since Ice would always do this gig for free, they would always tap him to be in their events to save money. “I think there were few occasions where we gave him an honoraria during the pandemic. But this was all presented and reported to the Council,” she stressed.
It was said that industry insiders were questioning the frequency of Ice’s stint with FDCP as a performer, director, and album producer. They thought that it was not enough reason that in order to save money, the council always gets Ice because, for them, there are other artists in the industry who are as good as the singer or even better than him.
Industry insiders are also questioning why initially, Ice was doing the events “out of love” but later on, he gets paid for his service. It was said that Liza Diño would answer “out of love” every time any person in the Council would ask why Ice Seguerra was part of the events.
