Vince Tañada Reacts to Netizen Questioning “Ang Bangkay” Title

Vince Tañada Responds to Query of a Netizen About His Film’s Title “Ang Bangkay”

Director of “Katips” and “Ako Si Ninoy” Vince Tañada responds to the netizen questioning the title of his new film “Ang Bangkay”.

FAMAS Best Director winner and Carlos Palanca awardee Atty Vince Tañada responds to a netizen’s question on why he chose the title “Ang Bangkay” for his film. He stated that he wrote in Tagalog so that he could modify the title.

“Title doesn’t need to be an English Translation. I wrote it so I have the freedom to change the title,” he writes this in the comments section of his Facebook post announcing the Cannes screening schedule for “Ang Bangkay” and his other film, “Ako Si Ninoy.”

‘Ang Bangkay’ translates as ‘The Corpse’ in English. Tañada correctly chose “The Embalmer,” which in the strictest sense is ‘Ang Embalsamador’ in Filipino. On May 21, 2023, the film will be presented at the Marché du Film at the Cannes Film Festival in France.

Tañada is known to be a competitor of controversial director Darryl Yap in making historical films. Tañada made two documentaries to contrast Yap’s films about the Marcoses’ lives during the government of former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr.

Tañada invented the “Katips” in response to Yap’s “Maid in Malacaang.” “Ako si Ninoy” was his second film, following “Martyr or Murderer,” the second episode of Yap’s “MiM.”
