Hong Kong Based OFW Died After Falling From a Building While Cleaning a Window
An Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) in Hong Kong died after allegedly falling from a high building while cleaning a window.
According to the Philippine Consulate in Hong Kong, an OFW in that nation died after allegedly falling from a window that was being cleaned. The victim, according to the report, fell from the 18th story of an apartment building.
The OFW was claimed to have fallen while cleaning the windows of his employer’s flat. Some building employees witnessed the incident and called the police. The OFW, who was not identified in the paper, died shortly after arriving at the hospital.
The incident has been reported to Hong Kong’s Philippine Overseas Labor Office. The Consulate has also reached out to the victim’s brother, who lives in Macau. Consul General Raly Tejada conveyed his sympathies to the OFW family in a video message.
According to Tejada, the family can expect government assistance as a result of this tragedy. The report added that the embassy also stated that it is in communication with the Hong Kong authorities in order to find a solution and conduct an inquiry into what occurred.
Meanwhile, OFWs in Hong Kong have been advised to avoid cleaning windows on high floors in order to avoid similar mishaps. It is believed that cleaning windows on the upper floors is only permitted if they are close to a balcony or common corridor. Except for their arms, they are not permitted to stretch their bodies over the edge of the window.
