Michelle Dee and Pauline Amelinckx shared this behind-the-scenes moment
Beauty queens Michelle Dee and Pauline Amelinkx talked about the technical issue during the Miss Universe Philippines 2023 coronation night.
On May 13, the pageant final was held at the Araneta Coliseum. Since it was a live broadcast, there were some unexpected things that happened. This happened after the Top 10 was announced.
The final 10 candidates were initially announced to walk in their evening gowns. However, the candidates, as well as the audience, were surprised when the Top 18 was called out again and they participated in the evening gown portion.
“Due to technical issues, we resulted to manual tallying, which means our Top 18 candidates will go through evening gown and compete for the Top 5,” host Xian Lim said as an explanation.
This was criticized by pageant fans. In a recent interview, Miss Universe Philippines 2023 Michelle Dee and Miss Supranational Philippines 2023 Pauline Amelinckx shared their thoughts on what happened.
Pauline said that she wasn’t sure what was happening at that time. She also shared that they were in their gowns already as the Top 10 was already announced but the Top 18 would return to the stage.
“So in my head, if I can be perfectly honest, I thought to myself, ‘oh goodness, the odds have been shuffled’,” Pauline Amelinckx said.
Michelle shared that they were already in a rush because they only have 8 minutes to prepare for the evening gown portion.
“So we were all kind of like just trying to make sure that we were ready, especially me because I would be the first one to come up because I was first to be the Top 10. I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, my major hair changes is a bit stressful’,” the crowned MUPH 2023 said.
Michelle also shared that it was like “how is the audience going to react, how are the girls are going to react, but as they say, anything that happened on (a) pageant will make history. If it’s destiny, it’s destiny.”
On the other hand, Michelle Dee said that the Miss Universe Philippines organization did the right thing because they could have stayed silent on this matter. “But they believe whoever really deserves to be there,” she said.
