Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Ilocos Sur, May 16, 2023

EARTHQUAKE TODAY – The Phivolcs recorded a 3.4 magnitude quake in Lidlidda, Ilocos Sur today, Tuesday, May 16, 2023.

Following the 7.3 magnitude earthquake that jolted a part of Davao Occidental a few weeks ago, another strong quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake hit a part of Ilocos Sur. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 3.4.

The earthquake that struck Ilocos Sur, today, Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at 07:11 a.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Lidlidda.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Ilocos Sur was located at 17.27°North, 120.50°East – 003 km North 88° West of Lidlidda. It had a depth of focus of 003 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. According to the quake-recording bureau, no intensity was felt nor recorded at the epicenter of the quake as well as the nearby areas. Instrumental Intensity I was recorded in Vigan, Ilocos Sur while Instrumental Intensity II was logged in Candon, Ilocos Sur.
