PNP Dismissed 6 Senior Police Officials Over Involvement in Kidnapping
The Philippine National Police (PNP) dismissed six (6) senior police officials over alleged involvement in the kidnapping.
Six senior officers from the PNP Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG) Special Operations Unit (SOU) were demoted after being accused of theft. The names of the six officers have not yet been released, based on the report.
The six policemen were promptly removed from their respective posts for inquiry, according to Police Colonel Marlou Martinez, PDEG deputy director for administration. Martinez stated that when the victims reported to their office, the names of the six police officers were disclosed.
The victims claim that the operator pushed them into a car and drove them to the PDEG SOU headquarters, where they were tortured. PNP Chief of Police General Benjamin Acorda Jr. also speaks out on the incident.
The new PNP head stated unequivocally that he will not accept police misbehavior, especially when they are implicated in horrific crimes while under his command. He also persuaded the people that there is nothing to fear in reporting police corruption.
Meanwhile, regardless of whether President Marcos accepts their courteous resignation, two police generals and two colonels face criminal proceedings and forfeiture of benefits, according to Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos. Marcos, as the country’s President, will have the last decision on the matter.
